People enjoy taking part in sport. Many sports and games which are nowadays played all over the world were invented in Britain – football, horse racing, tennis, cricket, golf and rowing. The national sports in Lithuania are basketball, athletics, cycling, football, ice hockey, handball. School sports make up an important phase of student life. Annual summer sports tournament includes both indoor and outdoor events. Students set school records in high and long jump, pole vaulting, discus throwing, shot-putting, triple jump, javelin throwing. The school gym is the scene of the indoor basketball, volleyball, gymnastics, fencing, weight lifting and wrestling. If a student has trained regularly and is in good sport shape he might break a record. Many students are members of the city sport clubs. They train in cycling, swimming, and etc. The Olympic Games are the world’s number one sports event. For athletes they mean a chance to win gold and glory.
