Nanotechnology is an area of science which deals with developing and producing extremely small, between 1-100 nanometers (nanometer is 10-9 of meter), tools and machines by controlling the arrangement of individual atoms. For comparision, human hair is about 80 thousands nanometers. Nanotechnology definition was defined by Norio Taniguchi of Tokyo science University in 1974 and is used till nowadays. The possiblity of molecular engineering first described by the brilliant Nobel laureate physicist Richard Feynman. In 1959 Feynman gave a lecture at the California Institute of Technology called "There's Plenty of Room at the Bottom" where he observed that the principles of physics do not deny the possibility of manipulating things atom by atom. He suggested using small machines to make even tinier machines, and so on down to the atomic level itself. That made a beginning of nanotechnology.
The great importance for nanotechnologies development have invention of the scanning tunneling and the Atomic force microscopes in early 1980s. It made posible not only to take photos of individual atoms, but actualy to move a single atom.
Nowadays we can see benefit of nanoscale materials. They are used for step assits in vans, bumpers on cars, paints and coatings to protecte against corrosion, scratches and radiation, protective and glare-reducing coatings for eyeglasses and cars, metal-cutting tools, sunscreens and cosmetics, longer-lasting tennis balls, stain-free clothing and mattresses, dental-bonding agent, burn and wound dreeings, ink, automobile catalytic converters and that is not the end. Nanoparticles make materials stronger or change their conductive properties.
Even primitive nanofactory can create products more powerful than today's versions. Electrical power can be converted to motion and vice-versa with ten times the efficiency and about 108 times more compactly. Computers can be 1012 times smaller and use 106 times less power. Materials can be about hundert times stronger. This means that...
