Environmental problems

The environment means surroundings in which people, animals and plants develop and exist. Ecology is a branch(šaka) of biology which investigate(tyrinėja) relationships between living beings and their environment.
The most serious ecological problems of today are the pollution of air, water and soil, the destruction(žlugimas) of ecosystem, disappearance of many species of animals and plants, the weather changes, acid rains, the warming up of the Earth’s surface and the deforestation. These damages are caused by the man himself and his technical progress.
I‘d like to start with the pollution of air, water and soil.The growing number of cars contribute much to the air pollution. Factories produce a large amount of carbon dioxide, lead poisons etc. which get into the air. Some of them in combination with water make sulfuric acid in the clouds, it later falls as acid rain which kills trees and makes soil infertile. Factories also pollute rivers because they put their chemical waste there. Also farmers pollute the soil using a lot of pesticides and fertilizers too. This pollution can also poison groundwater. I think that the best way how to reduce pollution is reducing, reusing and recycling.
Now I‘d like to tell you something about the global warming. For millions of years, the layer of gases has kept the earth warm enough so that people, plants, and animals can live here. But some scientists are now concerned that the earth’s surface will warm up too much - to a dangerous degree. This is called global warming. Factories, cars, and other things are making lots of new gases. These gases are trapping more and more of the sun’s heat. If it gets too hot, weather all over the globe would change. Warm places would be too hot to live, and cold places would become warm. It could melt the polar...
