What is aesthetics?

Artistic, tasteful, graceful, elegant, exquisite, beautiful, attractive, pleasing, lovely- all these words lead to one- Aesthetic.
Aesthetics- studies, ideas of beauty. But how could we answer the question “what is beauty?”. In this essay I shall discuss the concept of beauty from the point of view of some well-known philosophers.
I shall begin with Plato who idealizes beauty. All the world around us, Plato says, is just “poor impression” of the ideal world, which we cannot see. Every single object is merely a representation of an idea of the ultimate creator. As we can see in his allegory of “cave” all human beings know that their world exist just from illusions, people are like chained prisoners, who can only see “shadows” of real objects until they become enlighten. Plato used this allegory to show the difference between the world of ideas and the sensible world around us. Plato also demonstrated in “different steps of love and beauty”. The human approach is firstly to notice the beauty, that of a physical nature, the superficial. Next the soul is discovered and finally are discovered the wisdom of the soul leading to ultimate good. Hypothetically, Plato has a very strong idealistic, moral code, however this model of idealism does not transcribe into the sensible world.
In the book “Republic” Plato reject artists from the republic. Plato treats beauty and art oppositely. Art is closer to an evil, because it is trice removed from the truth. First is form made by a God, after that is individual things which are made by humans and then artists imitates an imitation. Therefore art has no true value.
